On November 13, 2024, the next meeting of member organizations of the Azerbaijan NGO Alliance for Children's Rights, coordinated by the Hopeful Future Social Initiatives Public Union, was organized.
According to QHT.az, the meeting discussed significant issues such as the development of the Alliance, the protection of children's rights, and the implementation of national and international initiatives in the field of child policy.
One of the main topics was the inclusion of new members into the Alliance, particularly civil society organizations working in the regions, which will expand the organization's scope and influence. Participants emphasized criteria for new members, collaboration methods, and strengthening efforts to protect children's rights in the regions.
Alliance members highlighted the importance of modernizing communication methods within the organization and with government, international bodies, NGOs, and other institutions. They proposed introducing new digital platforms for information exchange and preparing training and experience-sharing programs. Additionally, participants discussed the organization's sustainable management concept, taking into account the Alliance's long-term goals and the necessity of responding promptly to global challenges.
Alliance members also addressed the protection of children's rights in the context of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, held in Azerbaijan. They focused on safeguarding children's rights amidst climate change and drew attention to the global agenda. During the event, participants emphasized the importance of creating a safe and healthy environment for children and future generations, protecting childhood from climate risks, and ensuring equal opportunities for children living in vulnerable areas. The signing of the Children and Climate Declaration, reaffirming commitments to involve children in decision-making processes related to sustainable development, was highlighted as crucial. The Alliance actively supports these initiatives and contributes to developing global recommendations to ensure the sustainability of child policy amid climate change.
Furthermore, the implementation of strategic documents defining child rights policies at the national level, such as the 2020-2030 Child Strategy and the 2020-2025 National Action Plan, constituted an important part of the discussions.
Meeting participants noted several significant achievements, including ensuring access to education, substantial progress in protecting children's health, and strengthening measures to safeguard children from violence, exploitation, and discrimination. Special attention was given to programs aimed at supporting children with special needs, such as those with disabilities and orphans. Key topics also included improving education quality in remote areas, creating conditions for inclusive education, and ensuring equal opportunities for all children, regardless of their social and economic status.
As a conclusion, future directions for activities were outlined. Key recommendations for the development of the Alliance and the protection of children's rights included:
- Enhancing access to quality education for children in vulnerable groups.
- Improving health and psychosocial care services, particularly for children in difficult circumstances.
- Creating safe environments for children amid climate change and natural disasters.
- Strengthening legal protections for children, especially in preventing violence, exploitation, and discrimination.
Alliance members agreed that international collaboration and partnerships are essential for addressing these and other issues effectively. Participants expressed their intent to continue active cooperation with international organizations, state and private institutions, and develop and implement innovative solutions to address the problems children face globally.
At the end of the event, the NGO Alliance for Children's Rights reaffirmed its commitment to improving children's lives, ensuring their rights to education, health, safety, and equal opportunities, and increasing global attention to children's rights issues.
